Ocado to roll out predictive online selling

In a new move that will ensure customers do not forget important shopping items, Waitrose’s delivery service Ocado are to roll out a system of predicting when regular online customers will run out of goods previously ordered, and reserve them accordingly. This will become operational over the next month.

Ocado already runs the Ocado Instant service, which automatically creates an order from goods purchased historically by individual customers. The delivery wing of Waitrose now uses Ocado Reserve as well. The new system will indicate to shoppers by an icon on the screens of their PC’s when they need to stock up, product by product.

The move will prove to be popular with those who often find themselves coming home from the supermarket having forgotten certain essentails; ie all of us!
